September 22 marks the autumnal equinox – a day in which the sun shines directly over the equator, giving the northern and southern hemispheres equal amounts of rays. Across cultures and millennia, this day has been celebrated as a time to appreciate balance, nature and the changing of seasons; and as an occasion to consider our role in the greater ecosystem.
